In spite of his dreadful background Ulmo is a lighthearted hafling with an optimistic attitude towards life. His background before the waves pushed him ashore at Nelanther Isles, is blurry. Ulmo was an young kid when the boat he traveled with was attacked by pirates, and he escaped the bloodthirsty pirates by jumping overboard and miraculous survived.
With no one to look after him, he soon learned to take care of himself and earn the coin necessary. But honest work in at town with pirates isn’t easy, so he soon learned more creative ways to earn money. He tried at first to perform at street corners and inns in the city Ioma with his one-man-drummer-show, and got much applause, but little money. Therefore he learned to pick pockets from drunken pirates and that kept him going for many years.
One night he sneaked on a departing pirate ship and managed to get ashore to leave the Nelanther Isles behind him forever. He joined the first adventure party he met, and decided to delete the memories from Ioma from his memory. But glimpses from the pirates attack has haunted Ulmo at nights and slowly the stubborn hafling has started planning how he will take revenge against the pirate lord that leaded the attack. He doesn’t know the name of the pirate lord, but he believes he will as the memories from the attack come back to him.
Ulmo is still playing the drums sewed on his leather armor, but just for fun and to show off his skills with the daggers he uses as drumsticks. In combat he is dedicated, deadly and a bit reckless. He doesn’t hide the fact that he loves a good fight, even when the blood pours out of his enemy’s wounds. He doesn’t care much for wrong and right, but tries to stay on the right side of the law, because that keeps him out of the watchful eyes of troublesome guards and other authority persons.
